Successfully navigating one's career has always been both an art and science. This has never been more true as we face challenges very few could have imagined just a few short years ago. Our economic, political and social structures are all undergoing rapid changes and we in turn must keep pace. Paths that were once linear are anything but, and what does that mean for the future? In this conversation, Philip Mckenzie will share how growing up in Brooklyn, thriving in finance and Wall Street and subsequently growing an international business was only possible through understanding and leaning into culture.

Work Less, Rest Harder: Exploring the reality of taking sabbaticals
Consider this your invitation to visualize bigger dreams. US workers often find that they’re questioning their choices and looking for new career paths around the four-year mark of their professional lives. This number jumps down to 2.5 in the ad industry. On top of that, people of color are likely to burn out quicker, as they face marginalization on top of other career pressures. What if we could preserve the long-term trajectory of our professional and personal goals, if we gave ourselves the space to evolve and succeed? As POC who may be the first in our families with an office job, it’s hard to think about taking a break. In this workshop, we’ll explore what that reflection time could do for you, start designing that break, and discuss ways the 4A’s and MAIP community could support you on this journey.

Battling Burnout
Burnout is very real and is becoming an epidemic. Why? Because we wear being stressed and busy as a badge of honor and overlook the real damage burnout can cause. So many people use the term burnout in casual terms. However there is a real clinical definition and of course, clinical implications. This workshop will explore the vicious cycle of burnout, how to identify the different stages of burnout and the various ways you can protect yourself and your mental wellbeing. You’ll leave with an action plan to ensure you’re equipped to combat burnout head on and start prioritizing self care.
